And have you read Big Magic yet?
It’s a book by the wildly talented Elizabeth Gilbert (most widely known for her book-turned-movie, Eat Pray Love).
Full title: Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear.
I first read it on a ridiculously-rare-yet-inspired social media free weekend earlier this year (or was it last year? what is TIME lately?) and man. It is so good.
I’ve been playing with ideas and inspiration for my first book over the past week – so it’s no surprise I felt a nudge to bust out my copy of Big Magic last night.
When I sat down to scan through my (literal, bright yellow) highlights this morning, this passage jumped right out at me. Sharing here in case you could use your own permission slip to CREATE today:
“Your own reasons to create are enough. Merely by pursuing what you love, you may inadvertently end up helping us plenty. (‘There is no love which does not become help,’ taught theologian Paul Tillich.) Do whatever brings you to life, then. Follow your own fascinations, obsessions, and compulsions. Trust them. Create whatever causes a revolution in your heart. The rest will take care of itself.”
P.S. Legit almost forgot – speaking of creations! After a nice long (code for chaotic trans-Pacific movey + renovation-filled) summer break, the second season of my Naptime Empires™ podcast premieres soon.
If you could use some refreshingly honest conversations on the realities of parenthood + entrepreneurship in your life, catch up on season ONE here.
